New Project: Customelon

I’ve started a new project and it’s called Customelon. It provides an easy way to quickly find accurate customs duties for anything you’d want to ship to The Bahamas.

Why? Bahamians, of which I am one myself, import quite a bit and customs duties can make up a large amount of an item’s cost. Before buying anything a quick check for the expected duty often determines whether you’ll make the purchase. The Bahamian government provides a tool for this but it requires search terms that match the tariff schedules exactly. This makes it hard to zero-in on the right duty. Customelon employs LLMs to make layman-language querying possible. Search for whatever you’re purchasing as it comes to mind and Customelon will fetch you all of the relevant duties.

Customelon also makes it easy to share results with others. Every search is accessible via a URL. Like the results for say, flour? Copy the ‘flour’ results URL from you browser and send it to a friend. They’ll see exactly what you did.

I’m looking forward to getting Customelon into the hands of as many Bahamians as possible. And if you’ve given it a try, I’d appreciate any and all feedback. Happy searching!
